Heavy Quark Physics *

چکیده
Present and future lattice calculations involving b and c quarks include some of the most important applications of lattice gauge theory to standard model physics. These include the heavy meson decay constants, the BB mixing amplitude, and various semileptonic decay amplitudes, which are all crucial in extracting CKM angles from experimental data. They also include the extraction of αs from the charmonium and bottomonium spectra. Bound states of heavy quarks and antiquarks (quarkonia) have another crucial role to play in the development of lattice gauge theory: they provide systems in which the estimation of the errors inherent in current lattice calculations can be done in a more reliable and robust way than is possible for the light hadrons. The reason is that the quarks in these systems are relatively nonrelativistic. Coulomb gauge wave functions calculated on the lattice may be used to aid in the estimation of finite volume and finite lattice spacing errors, and of the effects of quenching. We have a much better idea of what to expect in lattice calculations of these systems since potential models may be used to obtain the leading behavior in v/c.[1] Chris Sachrajda and I will split the subject of heavy quark physics in these proceedings. His review [3] will concentrate on the part of the subject which involves the weak interactions. Mine will concentrate on the part which does not.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION
We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.
متن کاملExcited states of heavy baryons in the Skyrme model.
We obtain the spectra of excited heavy baryons containing one heavy quark by quantizing the exactly-solved heavy meson bound states to Skyrme soliton. The results are comparable to the recent experimental observations and quark model predictions, and are consistent with the heavy quark spin symmetry. However, somewhat large dependence of the results on the heavy quark mass strongly calls for th...
متن کاملHeavy Quark Theory
These lectures describe the most important theoretical methods in b-physics. We discuss the formalism of effective weak Hamiltonians, heavy quark effective theory, the heavy quark expansion for inclusive decays of b-hadrons and, finally, the more recent ideas of QCD factorization for exclusive nonleptonic B decays. While the main emphasis is put on introducing the basic theoretical concepts, so...

∗To appear in the proceedings of the Ringberg Workshop, New Trends in HERA Physics 2008; October 5 10, 2008, Ringberg Castle, Tegernsee. †Presented by Fred Olness subject of study both theoretically and experimentally. The theory of heavy quark production in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (PQCD) is more challenging than that of light parton (jet) production because of the new physics issue...
متن کاملMulti fluidity and Solitary wave stability in cold quark matter: core of dense astrophysical objects
Considering the magneto-hydrodynamic equations in a non-relativistic multi uid framework, we study the behavior of small amplitude perturbations in cold quark matter. Magneto-hydrodynamic equations, along with a suitable equation of state for the cold quark matter, are expanded using the reductive perturbation method. It is shown that in small amplitude approximation, such a medium should be co...
